They rule our lives, they're responsible for our happiness + saddness...and yet we constantly neglect them?! Our hormones...that crazy invisible force of nature that makes the difference between a great day + a day filled with comfort films + chocolate. But what can we do to help our hormones help us?
#1 Food
Your blood sugar likes to be stable. Facts. We humans routinely neglect this. Facts.
Your lovely old liver has a lot of jobs (they busy AF)...One of those jobs is removing excess estrogen from the bloodstream. However, we also like to give our liver extra side quests, such as trying to keep our blood sugar stable...trouble is, that means while it's doing that it's not removing excess estrogen.
High estrogen is linked to a lot of common issues 💁♀️
#2 Chemicals
Speaking of the liver! Another one of its jobs is to detox the body. Any chemical or medication we use has to get through our liver first! (Refer to #1 for the knock on effect of this).
As well as this, almost all man-made chemicals are endocrine disruptors.
Your endocrine system is responsible for: Metabolism,
Growth & development, emotions & mood, fertility & sexual function, sleep....so I don't really need to break that one down...
From your handsoap to your laundry liquid the list of chemicals we are bombarding our body with each day...it's no wonder we end up with imbalances.
#3 Sleep
Repeat after me: *Sleep is my best friend* Sleep is super important* I will do better at getting quality sleep*
I know it's not the most exciting thing to be good at *however* sleep is when we heal. It's the only time in any 24hrs that our body can really just do it's thing - and sometimes we neglect to give our bodies the time it needs to regenerate! It's not just quantity though...so stay tuned for a blog post on how to improve the *quality* of your sleep.
#4 Stress
ITS NOT ALWAYS BUTTERFLIES + UNICORN CR*P PEOPLE ✌️and stress is a majorrrr way to fluff with your hormones 🤌
Stress has an actual chemical response in the body and those chemicals include your hormones!
The main byproduct of stress in the body is something called Cortisol.
High cortisol levels can actually lower your estrogen levels (think: irregular periods, weight gain, night sweats, fatigue, moodiness)
This is exactly why I always stress the importance of treating yourself well + prioritising you + how you can lower your day-to-day stress levels 🙌
So by getting these 4 variables under control we have a holistic way to manage those wonderful hormones + stride our way into blissful balance!
