Here's why your posture sucks...

SING IT WITH ME:

My neck, my back, my posture is absolutely whack

Almost everyone *even you dear reader* has some form of postural deviation, manifesting as some sort of ache or reoccurring niggle.

BUT WHY?! We lament...I'll tell you why...

5 reasons your posture is f*cked

1. Let's start with everyone's favourite thing to blame...WORK

Your job, unless you are perhaps a magician or wizard of some sort, is repetitive. We do the same things the same ways 5 days a week 300 days of the year. As such it's understandable we develope imbalances from doing things the way we always do them this could be:

Bending over

Carrying

Sitting

Typing

Using machinery

The list goes on, but we have to reinforce proper movement to save us down the road!

2. Next up, those outdoor slippers...SHOES

Now I love me some birks + socks action whatever the weather HOWEVER I am an avid hater of OVERLY CUSHIONED SHOES...

It's very simple:

Running shoes = for running

Everything else = barefoot shoes

I won't go into the science (because I lack the time or motivation to) but cushioned shoes are making our feet lazy which creates disfuncional feet which = bad back which then travels throughout the body!

This is th VERY basic version of why our overly pampered feet are causing us problems but there's a tonne of in-depth information online it's eye-opening!

3. For number 3 I'm taking down a beloved icon...THE SOFA

Now I know it's a sacred place of relaxation + reflection as well as the ideal place for consumption of the trashiest of TV....

When you finally slump into that sultry sofa at the end of a long day, our sweet core goes to sleep...we tend to sit in god awful positions for hours at a time then wonder why our back feels like a minor war has broken out with heavy artillery flying throughout your spine!

I'd suggest from time to time sitting on the floor, yes the floor...where the peasants sit, with legs crossed to give your core something to think about!

4. Driving!

This one is easy...ever driven for like 8 hours straight? Anything happen to ache when you finally get out the car??

YEP

If you have to drive a lot, play around with your seating position so that your knees aren't constantly below your hip line (over extending your low back).

5. The final sacred space I shall be attacking....YOUR BED!

Chances are, your sleeping position is horrendous (but also glorious). If you're like me + you're a deep sleeper you may find yourself waking up with sleep injuries!

For side sleepers:

Place a pillow under your head + between your knees.

For back sleepers:

Place a rolled up towel under the backs of your knees.

For front sleepers:

Seek help because I'm pretty sure you're possessed

There you have it! Posture is something that can have dire consequences if ignored for too long, no one enjoys a bad back so make it a priority to work on yours.

If you're struggling with reoccurring injury or niggles drop me a message + let's see if there's a more obvious cause of your pain.
