What is "Seed Cycling" & why are we hearing about it now??

If you didn't know by now, we women are driven by cycles...
The moon, our hormones, the seasons - bloody everything!
So it makes sense that we have a natural affinity for them, they work for us.
Gaining in popularity recently I've seen the return of Seed Cycling!

But what is it?
Seed cycling is sold as a natural way of promoting hormonal balance. It encourages eating certain seeds (flax, sunflower, hemp etc) at certain times of our cycle (folicullar, luteal etc). It's seen as an accessible & low-key way of boosting our hormonal health & nutrition game.
Example:
Follicular Phase (Days 1–14)
Seeds to eat daily:
1 Tbsp ground flaxseed
1 Tbsp ground pumpkin seeds
Why these seeds help:
Flax contains lignans that may help balance estrogen levels.
Pumpkin seeds are rich in zinc, which supports ovulation.
Should we care?
There's a few caveats to this trend:
There are no big human studies proving the claims that seeds can meaningfully alter estrogen or progesterone levels.
Most of the suggested beneifts are theoretical, based on the nutrients found within the seeds.
It's highly likely the real benefits could be dervied from generally improved nutrition! By intentionally adding in the seeds, you are most likely indirectly improving your diet as a whole - which has a massive impact on hormonal balance. Now that's something I AM here for!
So should we bother?
As with most "trends" as long as they're not the most insane thing I've heard since "coffee isn't good for you"...Then I say try it - see if it works for you & see if it actually improves YOUR life, it doesn't matter if it's a "trend" if it doesn't move the needle in your life!
I've said it many times...
We are all SO beautifully different, what works for me may be your worst nightmare & vice versa.
I encourage curiosity with your body, how it works & what it likes & doesn't like. If seed cycling is your jam then amazing...if it's not, don't worry, you're still very much on trend!
If nutrition is something you struggle to get a grasp on, or something you know you desperately could do with a facelift - I'm offering food dairy analysis & structured meal plans from £55.
New for 2026 I'm also stoked to start offering Hormone & Habit Strategy Sessions which are so much more than just fitness & nutrition. Give me a message if you're ready to be on-trend with yourself in 2026!
